This is a good image of the Folkestone harbour pier now showing one of the extra large deckchairs they have installed recently. In essence this is a relatively simple image to take but the photographer has given it a sense of movement by waiting until the wind billowed out the deckchair fabric. Well done. |

I wonder how many people realise that the Folkestone Mermaid statue is actually of a local resident? It is also correct of course, that the mermaid has feet which is something people often comment about who don't know the story. This photograph is a good record of the statue with the nice added touch of the seagull. The composition is good with the figure nicely placed. It is a shame about the graffitti which I think I would have remeoved in post processing. As a local I can recommend coming down when there is an extreme high tide and the mermaid statue will actually be in the water! |

There does appear to be a sad story here but the animal has survived although the expression captured on his face speaks volumes. The quality of the detail captured in the fur is very high and the focussing and depth of field is nicely controlled. There is also detail throughout the lighter tones too. Very good. |

This is obviously something very different. For someone familiar with Rochester it should be easy to recognise this view. The movement is actually well controlled in the verticle plain and I like how all the tones have been retained and not burnt out anywhere. The red building is a bonus. |

The image certainly mirrors the name of the loch as it appears to indeed be very long. The lighting is excellent and the all important foreground detail even includes a finger pointing into the image. A fisherman standing in the water or a boat would be the icing of course but as presented it is a very good Scottish landscape. |

At first glance this looks like a general woodland shot but closer examination reveals a series of lines amongst the foliage that weaves throughout the image. The colouring gives a slightly surreal feel to the image too. Very well observed indeed. |

It appears someone has got down very low for this view. The colour pallette works well with the warm tones of the fungi against the cooler receding tones behind. There are some distracting bright areas in the background which are unfortunate but I cannot fault the detail in the fungi itself. |

This looks be a great building and this image certainly brings a great deal of detail in the stonework courtesy of the monochrome treatment. Unfortunately the lighting is a tad flat and the subject is very tight in the frame. Be careful with post processing sharpening too as there is a white line around the edges. The is a great subject and I would certainly return again. |

At first glance I had to ask myself what is the animal looking at which gives the image a story for me. The squirrel l is nicely placed in the image drawing us into the composition. The lighting is a bit uneven and I would have preferred the head to be brighter than the back of the animal but that is nitpicking as there is a nice quality to this especially the detail in the fur. |
