A Little Bit Foxy

This is an interesting image. At first glance it looks like a limited depth of field then it gives the impression of the head being sharpened separately from the rest. Either way there is no doubt that there is great character in that face and not only are the all important eyes are sharp but so is the end of the nose.

Rochester Cathedral The Illuminated History

What a striking image. I imagine the exposure was not easy for this. The contrast is very high but that could be the projected image but I do enjoy the colour combination of ther blues and yellow. The composition is nicely arranged and it fits the picture space well.

Fox in the Garden

This is a  nicely arranged composition and I like the eye contact with the photographer. The lighting was against the photographer as it is ver harsh and contrasty causing some burnt out areas. The foliage around the subject works particularly well.

Kings Cross Station

Monochrome images often need a good subject with good tones to and shapes to work well and this is a good example. The light coloured fan effect is very effective and contrasts well with the dark brickwork. For a minor point the picture is not quite square and the brickwork slants to the left. This could be corrected in post processing although the fan effect is good.

Early morning mist

There is a beautiful recession here. It would have been easy to make this monochrome but I quite enjoy the gentle blue tones. Incorporating the detail at the base is very important. To further enhance this I might have cropped the sky but otherwise I greatly enjoy this.

Herne Bay

2nd

This is an image with  a full range of tones but with some nice contrast as well. It has been cropped to the classic square shape and everything feels balanced witha well worked out composition. I like how the nearest groyne leaves space on the left and doesn't close off the image beyond completely.. It doesn't have a zing point to grab our attention but is a very nice landscape, (seascape), of Herne Bay.

Dawn Beach Run

3rd

There are two things that make this image without which it would not have worked and they are the orange colouring and the runner. Imagine this scene without them. The artificial lighting and the flash of orange above the horizon work extremely well. Otherwise the image would have looked a little  underexposed to me. A clever use of light.

I'm Looking at You

This is well timed as the figure is walking into the image and is in the optimum position. The tree top right is a lucky addition as that could have been a bright distracting corner of the composition. Obviously, these candid shots are not easy to plan but I think a more square on viewpoint might have been preferable especially with the pointing hand. Still well seen and well taken.

The Long and Winding Road

I like the high viewpoint here and the composition which drags us from the bottom left and takes us through. The colour of the road contrasts well with the surrounding landscape. The lighting and resulting image is a tad contrasty and at first glance the image looked rather empty until I spotted that very important part, the lone cyclist who is perfectly positioned. Well timed!

Auditorio de Tenerife

SM

At first glance this looked like something from a sci fi film or Dr Who. It is a structure that is crying out for treatment like this. The monochrome image is nicely done with good contrast and sharpness. There is evidence of dodging and burning and a hint of overshrpening with the white halo but those are minor points here on an image which is quite timeless.
