This appears to be a carefully and skilfully constructed image. The arrangement of the two fruit types is very good as is the lighting and general quality. It could have been easy to have burnt out areas but everything is nicely controlled. Initially I wasn't sure about the dead space at the top but if I mentally crop it out the image appears unbalanced so in fact it works well. |

This is a beautifully lit springtime image of this much photographed castle. The view is enhanced greatly by that carpet of daffodils although I'm a little concerned about the large rogue daffodil head bottom right. The colour pallette from yellows through to the vibrant blue work very well together. |

Springtime at Scotney Castle |

Another much loved and well photographed local castle which has received some nice springtime lighting and colouring here. I like the addition of the birds. There is some dead space in the water and the grass on the left and I wondered if a different viewpoint further to the right would have helped fill the spaces. Having said that I do like the dynamic line formed by the bank. |

There is some nice detail and texture in the flowerhead here and I like how the depth of field chosen has ensured that it stands out from the background. There is a bright line around the flower which might indicate some aggressive sharpening in post processing. It isn't too prominent but something to watch for. Although there are some distracting highlights in the background the flat lighting has allowed for all the wonderful textures in the petals to be captured. |

Bodiam Castle is a place I have visited many many times since I was a young child and I wonder how many people having seen the exterior are surprised by the ruins within as clearly shown here? The photographer obviously visited on a quiet day as I have been here when the castle has been over run by visitors. This is the view from the postern gate looking towards the main gateway. The flat lighting has given us a wealth of detail. It is unfortunate that the visitor building distracts above the battlements but that is unavoidable. There does appear to be some noise in the image which has taken away some smooth tones but overal this is a good record image of the interior of the front wall of the castle. |
