This is a good viewpoint for this part of the castle. The pathway has been well utilised to act as a great lead in. The flat lighting has enabled a great deal of sharp detail to be rendered in the stonework. Mobile phones usually have small size sensors and this often means extreme depth of fields are possible so I am assuming that the soft areas in the image are an in phone special effect. For me this is a distraction and I would personally have lefy it all sharp. What is very good here though is the nice colour rendering. |

A simple idea but nice executed. The photographer has carefully selected this area of the stones and ensured that the warm toned stone is the one that captures our gaze. Focussing is spot on as is the shallow depth of field which has nicely softened the background but not too much. The detail on the foreground stones is very good and I am also impressed by the colour and contrast range. |

The photographer has done well here to capture the three cars completely within the frame. The overcast lighting has lowered the contrast which means that the bright white details of the cars has been captured. (This could easily have been lost on a bright sunny day). Unfortunately the image looks very static and lacks the feel of the cars 'racing to the line'. Imagine if this was taken next to the finish line and the cars were closer together allowing the opportunity to try some panning techniques. I think to improve this image I would crop it right down to a letterbox and/or put a tilt which which would add some dynamism to the image. |

This is something different. The composition is very good with the subject well placed and also the only sharp part of the image which is perfect for me. If the screen detail was sharp this would take away our attention. It is good to see that the photographer used the ambient lighting and not flash although it has given a slightly warm tone. My greatest concern is the convergence and general lean of the image which could be adjusted out. Overal though this is nicely done for an image of this type. |

I think the title of this says it all! The pose of this magnificent bird is excellent and the image was taken at the perfect moment. The composition is spot on as the bird surveys the world beyond. The crowning glory is the detail in the plumage which can be notoriously difficult to capture and still show as bright white. Very nice indeed. |

I like the idea here with the shadowy shapes looming out of the mist especially as the longer you look the more clearer they appear to be. Unfortunately, they are the subject of the title but they are a small part of the frame. Interesting as it is I think I would have cropped out the sea completely and even concentrated on just one of the cranes. These cranes are great subjects and this is a good idea to return to. |

These three boats have been captured on a nice angle and in good light although it is a tad contrasty and some highlight detail has been lost. It is unfortunate that the rearmost boat is obscurred by the boat in front of it. I would crop this down to exclude some of the distracting background detail which is taking my eye away from those great boats. The photographer chose the right time to be at this location abnd I would certainly return here again. |

Live music gig photography is not easy. I have done a great deal over the years and learnt early on that the best images come from using the stage lighting and NOT full on on camera flash. The photographer here has used the stage lighting which is good to see. Unfortunately this is where you discover that stage lighting is not as bright as it appears. Also it is constantly changing and different colour lights also have different exposure values. However, the images that work often work very well. At first glance this image looks very good. The lighting colours work really well and the composition looks good too. There is some stage paraphenalia in the foreground which is often impossible to avoid especially if you are shooting from the audience. The biggest issue here though is the softness which I guess is too slow a shutter speed. If possible set the camera to manual and set a preferred shutter speed. Nevertheless it is a good effort for this photographic discipline. |
