Just Waiting

1st

I  like the story here. I don't know if it is as seen or if it's a composite image but either way there is a warning for us here. Technically it is very high quality but the thing that makes it is the timing with a brilliant pose from the subject.

Leading Lines

SM

Railway lines are always excellent subjects for conveying depth but they are often shown as straight lines but this one has a curve which works very well. The cables in the foreground are a great addition to the composition. The contrast is a tag high but iy suits this subject.

Lone Tree

A simple but effective composition with a nice combination of colours. The lines through the crop is the key to how this works. With that blue sky and tree in full foliage this could be a good infra red subject.

Over Here

The animal here has been very nicely captured with full detail and is a good size it the image space. Unfortunately the piece of vegetation that crosses his face is a real distraction. I cannot fault the focus and use of appropriate aperture to throw everything else but the creature out of focus.

Bumble Bee

The bumble bee has been well captured here with good sharpness and detail with the additional blur of the wings which works well. I like the background detail which indicates this was taken in the wild and not in a studio. I would certainly have cropped out the large bright area top left but the rest is very good.

Bodiam Castle

SM

This is a classic view of this well photographed castle but the use of infra red has certainly enhanced it. Special effects to my mind should enhance but not become the image so this one is very good. I like the colour combination and technically it is of high quality with excellent sharpness. Very good.

The Circle of Lebanon, Highgate Cemetery

SM

Monochrome infra red and cemeteries have always been a good combination for spooky images and again this image shows this. The composition is nicely arranged as it takes us through the image. The single piece of foliage is nicely placed on the left but it is the single door on the right which adds real strength to the composition.

St Mary's church tower, Newington

There is a strange feel to this monochrome image. The contrast is high but the various tones work well especially with the dark sky and the foliage. This image does display some infra red traits but that is just my assumption. The sharpness is very high but I do enjoy how the building fills the image space.

On the right track?

There is much to admire in this image which is technically very good. The depth of field. detail, sharpness  and exposure are great as is the sense of depth but I think it really needs a point of interest. In an ideal world a nice steam loco coming along would be great.

Sunset at Chatham Docks

I like the colours captured here and the various shapes and shadows are good. It is a shame the sign is a distraction which is also cropped but irt would have been difficult to avoid that. Having he sun hidden behind the building also avoids the horrible burnt out disc we often see so well done for doing that.

Abstract car details often work well and I like the idea behind this one. The badge is very striking and the reflection is a nice touch to the composition. The high contrast has created some bright areas which catch our eye especially the large bright area at the bottom. I'm wondering whether a straight on view could have lessened that and strengthened the image overal.

Common Grey Seal. Isles of Scilly

2nd

I enjoyed this image very much. It is a colour picture but with a very limited colour palette of blues and greys. I like the eye contact between the seal and the viewer and most importantly the eyes are nice and sharp. A nice added touch is having the seal just off centre in the image space. Very nice indeed.

Puffin Looking at You

This is an enjoyable image which of this loveable character. Unfortunately the quality of the image has suffered. I don't know if it is an over enlarged section or an effect which hasn't worked to my satisfaction. It is a shame as otherwise this is a fun image.

The vault roof under the Vestey Tower of Liverpool Cathedral

3rd

Wow, what a striking image full of dynamism. There is a full range of tones here and the warm tones suggest this could be an HDR type shot which has worked very well. It could have been all too easy to lose the window detail but here it has been reatined but with also a nice feeling of bright light coming through. The composition is also evenly balanced revealing the attention to detil at the taking stage. Great.
