Bumble Bee

This is a nicely arranged composition. The bee and the plant are nicely placed and the story is well told. The quality suggests this could be a sectional enlargement as the sharpness is not great and the contrast is a little high but it is a nice image.

Lunchtime Reflections

An interesting image. I like the use of the various panes of glass and mirrors to give the reflections. The two figures are nicely placed and there are leading lines that take us to them. Using monochrome is a good idea but the tones are a little muddied here. If possible I would try and lift and separate some of the mid tones. This would give some extra life to the image. Well done on something different though.

Got all my boats in a row

Another unique composition. The boats are nicely arranged and with the lighter toned boat in the middle it appears the photographer studied the composition carefully before tripping the shutter which is good. Again the tonal range is dark and a little limited. Lift and separate the middle tones and this would be mproved enormously for me. Again, well done on something different from the usual canal boat shot.

Youth at the End of a Perfect Day

Shooting into the sun can easily produce flare and expose the shortcomings of your lenses and any dirt that may be on them but that has been avoided here. The land in the background usually turns very dark like this but the sun has illuminated the edge of the figure and avoided them being lost in the background. I am concerned at the slanting horizon but otherwise this is a well captured image.

Blue Yonder

SM

This picture obviously conveys both a great sense of depth and height. It is nicely and carefully arranged and all the lines take us through the image. I like how one window has a different coloured interior which catches the eye. Without this important element this image would have lacked that special something.

Guadalquivir River

This exotic looking location has been nicely captured here. The lighting is very good and the buildings are nicely rendered. The river is a very prominent part of the composition but it does appear empty. I wonder if those rowers in the far distance could have filled the space and provided a nice zing point? Nevertheless, this is a fine shot and no doubt a great memory.

Plaza de Espana

What a wonderful subject. Just by looking at this I can see many other possible compositions within the frame. As presented we have an L shaped composition where everything takes us eventually to the top of the tower. Lighting is good and there is immense detail to be seen. The L shape has created some dead space in the sky which is unavoidable but I do like the inclusion of the lamp in the foreground which also acts as a stop at the edge of the frame.

First Bird

1st

I enjoy this image very much. The quality of the detail and sharpness here is very good. The background is muted perfectly and the exposure is spot on. It is a shame about the burnt out area where the bird is perched but I do like the fact that this is an honest bird that is a little ruffed up and not pristine.

White Squirrel

3rd

I assume this is an albino squirrel which makes it quite rare so well done for finding this and getting such a sharp and detailed image. The photographer has also managed to keep detail in that fur. With such a fine grained and sharp image it could have been cropped a bit closer to make the animal larger in the image space. The crowning glory of this is that pink eye, not only is a contrasting colour but it is pin sharp as well.

Canterbury Cathedral

Well done on capturing animage of this city centre building with hardly anything modern within it to date it. No mean feat! The colour palette is good as it separates the building from the foliage. With the building behind the foliage it could easily have been lost. The image does appear to be oversharpened a tad which has created a sharp halo. Other than that well done for finding a different view of this much photographed building.

Stormy Stansted Airport

SM

I imagine there were some bumpy flights on this day! There is real drama in that sky in addition to the rain too. Well done on capturing the aircraft in the optimum position in front of the orange lighting. The foreground sets the scene but is alittle dark and I did wonder if the image could be strengthened by cropping that out. At the end of the day timing was spot on here.

Have You Caught My Dinner Yet?

I like the story here although I could not comment on it! The composition is good and clearly tells that story as it flows from left to right and takes our eye to that interesting looking fishing float. There is a dead space top left which could not be cropped out but the wonderful blue water is all part of the story.

Calla Lilly

This is a great study in colour. The bright warm colours of the petals really sing out against the greens. The colours maybe a tad saturated but not overly so I am fine with that. The shapes and folds of the flower are great but I think I would have cloned out the pointed, out of focus leaf poking out the top. The photographer certainly has a great subject in their garden.

Walking in the rain

There is a great sense o movement here and the water and clothing all add to the story. I think there are two other images here which may have worked better as I'm not sure about the two figures overlapping each other. A second or two earlier would have them walking into the image and a second or two later would have them walking out, I'm sure either one would have worked. I do lke how the water droplets have been caught.

Alicia

2nd

This picture exhibits a supreme control of light and exposure on the face, nothing is burnt out although there are some very dark shadows. This is no concern as the face is our subject and there is a great deal to enjoy there. I did ponder if the arm and shoulder could be darkened to further concentrate our gaze on the face. An excellent portrait nonetheless.

Seasalter Beach Huts

SM

A simple but nicely constructed composition. The huts sit nicely on the bottom third. The contrast is relatively low but it all adds to the atmosphere of this location on a less than sunny day. I like the control of the the tones in the sky. The arrangement of the huts is good also with none cropped off and that great one in the centre with the round windows.
