Not only is this a well timed image but there is a great story attached to it as well. The bird is so well placed and the text in the background which could often be a distraction really makes this image. On a technical matter the burnt out area on the bird's back is a shame but for me the image speaks for itself. |

A very busy image in the central section but I like the reflections and the careful cropping to include them. The lighting on this overcast day was not ideal but it does provide a wide range of tones. |

This is an extremely dynamic picture. The sky detail is fantastic and the colours, which I think are maybe enhanced a tad add to the drama. The sun itself has however beaten the sensor and become extremely burnt out which is something to watch although the sunbeams are a nice extra. |

In contrast to the preceding image this one is extremely quiet and restful. The fungi is nice placed in the image space and the chosen depth of field gives us a nice hint of the natural background. The lighter areas in the background are nicely subdued although the one cut by the frame on the left is a little distracting. The sharpness and quality of the plant area is wonderful. |

This is a nice arrangement and the use of a very wideangle lens has shown the puffballs in their environment. The distortion from the wide lens is nicely controlled. The sky area is very bright and contrasty compared to the fungi and I may have cropped out the blue area. A nice image and as I said earlier it's good to see a fungi image showing the plants in there own landscape. |

To me this is the basis of a great image. There is a wide range of tones here including some great sky detail. However, the presented image is a little flat. With all that available detail I may have really pushed the contrast and saturation of the sky and also looked to see if there is detail in the sheep. I would certainly tighten the composition by cropping the foreground. A nicely taken image to work on I'd say. |

Autumn colours are always attractive and this image reveals why. The subjects may be past their best but the colours really sing out. The exposure is nicely balanced too. A simple composition, I'm not too sure about the cropped leaf though but nicely produced. |

This has been very well captured. The composition is great with the stag in the perfect position and looking into the image. The depth of focus is very nicely managed with our gaze directly on the eye. The colour palette is small and a little warm but it shows how the beast blends into its environment. The lighting is great too especially how it interacts on the antlers. Very nice. |

This is a very high quality fungi image. The lighting, sharpness and composition are very well done including that great muted background. The only aspect of this that is a shame is that the subject is not in great condition. Imagine this with a pristine specimen. Technically this is close to flawless. |

There is a very painterly feel to this which I think is due to the colours and the apparent softness around the leaves. Initially I was concerned about the light area but this is where most of the raindrops are and the brightness pulls our eye in. The ripples caused by the raindrops are timed perfectly. A very pleasing and restful image. |

I must admit I did not fully understand this image. From a technical point of view the monchrome treatment works well and I particularly like the control of the highlights especially the blade. In contrast the shadow detail is a little lacking and I'm not sure about the smoke effect. I will also admit to missing the point of the London maps guide. Overall, this is an interesting and unique image. |

The animal footprints are very impressive and give us a real lead into this image. The figures and dogs in the background act as a nice stop in this image. To really accentuate the footprints and added some dynamism to this I may have cropped off the left side and turned this into an upright composition and teased some more detail out of the sand. Well seen and well taken. |

A very spooky image which is apt for this week of Halloween. The complete lack of detail in the face area is perfect for this and I like the hint of movement. The lighting raking across the image has created some good surface details although I may have toned down the bright out of focus tree a tad. Atmospheric and different. |

A good composition with some well placed elements in the central horizontal band. I'm not convinced about the white vignette which takes away some edge detail I may have preferred to see. The sky appears to have some great detail which I would work on more. Alternatively, if this was mine I think I would be quite brutal here and crop this into a thin letterbox shape. For me this creates a better composition although as presented we do have a good lead in through the foreground. Another image with possibilities for different interpretations. |
