Morning Stroll

An image with a story and a mood. I like the composition and how the well placed figures are taking us into the background. There is a cool green cast to this which works well but I may have tried a blue tint as well for a comparison. I think a tad increase in the brightness would also benefit this otherwise fine image.

Destination Unknown

SM

A simple idea but this image is actually well thought out. The portrait format gives a dynamic which draws us in along the path of the road. The central reservation is a strong feature and well done, or it was fortuitous, but I do like the kink in the armco. It may have been nice to have a closer vehicle but that was obviously out of the control of the photographer but I would have cropped the bright area at the top. If I do this myself it appears to draw our eyes even more into that area. A well seen and well timed image.

Old Tug Boat

What immediately strikes you here first is the monochrome treatment which is quite contrasty and sharp. This treatment works well on the boat but has not separated it from the background which is a little intrusive. Monochrome works well on bold shapes and the background shed for me needs toning down as does the grass area. This would then concentrate our gaze on that wonderful boat detail.

This is a very nice detail image of this classic camera. The lighting in particular has been very well handled. This is not a record picture to me but a more pictorial rendition and I like it very much. I very much enjoy the careful depth of field selection which has kept the detail I want to see sharp and clear. Well done.

A very narrow colour palette but the colours that are present sing out in an otherwise very monochrome scene. The photographer has very precisely chosen a contrast setting which has not lost the other foliage in the fog which seems to appear the more you view this image. Well done.

Palace of Westminster

SM

There is an immense amount of detail on this and it is very interesting looking at it closely. The rendering of the water and the flag on Westminster Abbey prove that this is a long exposure which accounts for the slightly surreal appearance. The weather conditions were not the brightest but I think those present on the day actually enhance this technique and lift a classic view into something else.

Beach Creature Sculpture

This is an interesting subject to photograph which initially looks like a record shot type pose but taken in a pictorial manner. The various shades and lines in the background all appear to be carefully aligned with the foreground subject which itself has been carefully placed to one side to pull us into the image.

Autumn Reflection

SM

This image screams autumn with its crisp bright colours of the fallen leaves and the lighting but in a seemingly unconventional way as most images of this type are taken in woodland areas. Using an urban street with unphotogenic parked cars is often a camera club competition no no but here it does work. It is a shame one of the cars is cut in half on the edge but there is no doubt this is a well seen picture and proves the adage that pictures are everywhere, as long as you have a camera to hand to capture them of course!

3 seat view from riverside counrty park

The view here may not be the most attractive but an image like this could become a historical document in years to come so these are often worth taking. Utilising the three benches as foreground detail and the branch as a frame are very good ideas. To improve it for me I would have cropped in much closer to the bench and branch but otherwise this is a good image.

Sun shining through the mist

1st

A very simple but very effective picture. Photographing the sun directly is often never recommended firstly on  the grounds of safety and secondly because it often results in extremely burnt out areas in the picture space. However, here the mist has reduced the glare significantly and although it is still just a white disc I find it works extremely well against that brilliant silhouette of the pidgeons. Very good.
