The Cats Dinner

A nicely timed image. I like the pose and the eye contact with the viewer. The image has also been nicely cropped as well. My only concern is with the vegetation which is intruding into the top of the picture space. The colouring of the cat is a perfect foil to the green background.

Doom & Gloom

This is a great subject for photography with bags of potential. The image as presented is very competent but with the wealth of information captured here I can see a great monochrome crying out. The green and the rust should convert into great tones and there is fantastic detail in the sky which with a little work should create some really dramatic results.

Getting "that" shot.

3rd

At first glance this has all the hallmarks of a grabshot of a colleague at work. However, a more careful study reveals that this is a well composed image. I like the sense of depth created by the foreground and background detail linked by lines in the landscape. I would crop out most of the sky as it is quite bright but otherwise I quite like this.

Tulip

SM

A very delicate study and so well presented that I'm not really sure if it is a photo of a watercolour or a watercolour filter applied. Lovely pastel tones and nice even lighting. The picture does look a little overexposed but this fits in well with the painting effect.

Folkstone can look exotic.

The Folkestone artworks have proved to be great subjects and this one is no exception. The photographer has made good use of the boardwalk to create a very nice lead into the image. It may have proved advantageous to have a figure in there as the picture does feel a little empty but the limited colour palette work very well together.

Rochester Cathedral through the window

The stone window frame of the Rochester Castle Keep works extremely well here as a frame for the Cathedral although I may have lifted the camera slightly to include more of the building and fill in the arch space more. The chosen aperture has created spot on depth of field from front to back. The image does appear a tad overexposed and this has created a drawing feel to it which is actually quite attractive.

Rope yarn spools

This is an interesting subject but with nothing to provide scale I have to guess how large/small they are. The arrangement of overlapping spools is good although I would have cropped out entirely everything which wasn't a spool. Having something in one of the apertures could work well as a zing point and as the monochrome conversion is so effective this extra zing point detail could be colour popped.

Taking Care

SM

There is a very nice story here and so well captured. The timing is very good as the attitude of the swan gives a sense of caring for the youngsters. The bright highlight at the top could be cropped out and further strengthen the composition which with the original crop is already a nice shape to fit the image.

Dessert

1st

A very fine image that I enjoyed very much. My only very very minor issue is with the bright spot to the left of the animal but that pales into insignificance compared to the rest of the picture.

Stormy Sky over the River Swale

SM

There are some lovely tones and colours within this image. At first it appears to be a picture in two halves but there is a story of the impending darkness moving in and taking the light. Very nice.

Off We Go

2nd

This is a very well captured moment. Focussing and depth of field concentrate our gaze on the determination of the young chap. At first I was a little concerned that the image looked too static but of course, on reflection this is the instant he sets off!

Breath of Fresh Sea Air

Judging by the dynamic angles this has the hallmarks of being taken with a very wide angle lens. The lines of the pier and even those in the waves sweep us into the image space and our gaze ends up at the white building on the shore. This is a great composition but I think I would try it again with more dramatic lighting or sunrise/sunset.

Memories to come

I like the contrast herebetween the shapes of nature and those of man. The colours of the huts work well against the sand, grasses and sky. I would crop some more from the sky to make this more of a letterbox but I like the sense of movement in the grasses in contrast to the static huts.

Enjoying the view

This is a nice composition and indeed a very nice view. There is a good sense of depth with the figures in the foreground and lines in the landscape leading us further into the image. There is even a cloud that appears to mirror the landscape. My only concern is that the figures are hard pressed against the left side of the frame. A little side step to the left would bring them in more to what is otherwise a nice image.

The light at the end of the tunnel

Nice lighting, nice colours and a great sense of depth which just needed to be taken a little earlier so that the figure in the background was larger in the frame.
