Sundown at Hoo

This is an attractive landscape. The lighting and sky detail is great. I did wonder if it was a little oversharpened judging by the white halo on the horizon and there does appear to be a yellow colour cast to it. The reflection in the water works well and I like the full range of tones.

Fire breather

There is some magnificent timing here to capture this flame in full flow. The attitude and lighting on the fire breather is very good. It is unfortunate about the very bright white highlights in the flame and I think a little judicious cloning could help here. (I rested using the term burnt out!) Very good otherwise.

Money for Old Rope

The quality of the monochrome here is fantastic helped in part by the great lighting. The detail in the rope is great and it is just the bright buildings in the background that catch the eye a little although the photographer has put them nicely out of focus.

Frindsbury Church

This is another high quality mnonochrome image. The lighting is pretty flat but this has ensured a full range of tones. Detail is high although beware of oversharpening as there is a white outline around the roofline. This image would certainly be useful as a record shot of this building.

Common Gladiolus-common but beautiful

This is a well seen composition with all the heads semi or fully closed apart from one. Sharpness and detail are good as is the colouring. On camera flash has created some harsh lighting with deep shadows. Luckily the background still has some light to show this is outside. The specimen chosen is not in the best condition but as I said earlier I do like the composition.

Rochester across the Medway

I don't think I have seen this view of Rochester before so well done for searching it out. The image shows the classic attractions of Rochester plus the Russian submarine that was moored in Folkestone a good few years ago. Lighting again is flat but it does give detail throughout the exposure range. I think I may have upped the contrast in the central area a tad more but I do like the bottom framing  with the foliage and the darkened sky to hold the image in.

My Mouth is on Fire!! So what!!

1st

There is a lot to like about this image. The pose, the light on the skin, especially the beard as well, the expression and all this before we get to the flame. All surrounded by that wonderful green of the grass. The costume is a little distracting and could have been cropped out but that does not really concern me here. Very good indeed.

That's Nailed it!

A very good exercise in monochrome and shallow depth of field. The off centre arrangement works well. I may have darkened down the front left soft focus highlight but otherwise this is good.

Olde Mooreing Post.

It is often good to move in close as there can be great shots there. I like the subject here and the composition is good. For me it needs greater contrast and stronger colours or a good gritty monochrome treatment. As presented I wouild certainly have removed the out of focus highlights adjacent to the metal ring. Great to see someone looking for different images.

In one respect this is a good record shot as it shows this ships control in wonderful detail. On the other hand we see it in its environment which is also equally good. I like the well balanced exposure as well.

Reflection in an art gallery window

This is an interesting image which at first glance appears to be a double exposure although of course it is technically a double image. It has been well seen and well taken especially considering the exposure difficulties it presented. I think a little more post processing could bring out more but well done for spotting something different.

Medway Queen will sail like a fish

I like the industrial feel to this pattern picture. The sheen of the metalwork contrasts nicely with the brown colouring. Maybe it requires another element to capture our eye? Depth of field does tail off a little in the background but the dynamic composition is very good.

Feeding Time

The quality of this is a joy to behold. At first it looked a little underexposed but then I noticed the excellent lighting on the face. The detail on the fur is tremendous as well and the rich colouring which is strong but not overpowering is great. The background structure although out of focus does catch the eye with its brightness and I wondered if darkening this and reducing the colour may be something to try?

Medway Queen

SM

This is a very good study of this grand old vessel in its current state of preservation. Nicely detailed with tones throughout the exposure range. The composition with the foreground rope that pulls us into the image works very well.

The Pose

2nd

A nicely captured image. The little chap certainly looks to be posing nicely for the camera. Sharpness, focussing and exposure are very good topped off with that all important eye contact. The image is a little on the cool side and I may have tried warming it up a little. With all that available quality in the squirrel I think the image would stand being enlarged a little to further fill the frame more. Nice.

Minster

There is a nice feeling of space here and the colour harmony between the browns and the blue work well. The sky detail with those clouds are a good addition too.

Setting sunlight

The warm tones here certainly convey an evening feel to this. The use of the arch is very good as it nicely frames the scene beyond but the photographer has also ensured depth of field to capture the foreground detail as well. The timeless feel is taken away by the parked cars which I would have cloned out but thats a minor point.

Colour match

The photographer has done well to spot the colour similarities amongst the subjects here. Waiting a couple of seconds before firing the shutter would have separated the flag pole from the figures but full marks for finding this scene.
