Someone has been having some tabletop fun here. The photographer has isolated the eyes to great effect by using a shallow depth of field and focussing on them. We know that bees are yellow and black so I am a little unsure about the monochrome treatment which has created a confusing background that keeping in colour may have avoided. I do like the dynamic viewpoint. |

This is a timeless and nicely produced study. Apart from the modern buildings in the background this could have been taken at anytime. Sharpness, deatil and the monochrome conversion are of high quality. Lighting conditions are very bright but unfortunately there is no sky detail at all. I would recommend returning in different conditions or even add a sky in as the huge white area does take up a huge space. In all other respects this is a nice tranquil scene. |

This is a competent image of this rose. A nice example in good condition has been selected which is important to me for an image like this. The soft lighting works well as does the colour palette with the warm rose against the cool greens. I think I would have moved the rose head to the left slightly but otherwise this is well done. |

A simple but effective image. I like how the depth of field has isoloated the clock from the background. If the background was sharp the clock may well have clashed with it in this monochrome picture. The monochrome treatment incidentally has a nice bite of contrast to it. As this could be classed as a pattern picture it is not quite symmetrical, a small step to the left would have created an even image all round. The lights bottom left caught my eye at first but I think they are a good addition to the compositiion. |

An image which is simple and bold and relies on pattern and colour. The sharpness and crispness of the contrast is very good. It is not exactly symmetrical and I wonder if something like an aircraft in the white sky could have been a nice added touch. As presented it is certainly very striking. |

The sunset captured here is excellent. The sun is obviously burnt out but the white area is nicely contained. The addition of the fisherman creates the all important zing point silhouette which is often a pre- |

This has been well seen and captured. The figure is well exposed and the bright highlights in the background have not fooled the exposure metering. They are very bright though and do grab the eye but the do not take us too far away from the main subject. I did wonder if a more rectangular composition would have helped as the rod is cropped abruptly. However, as a candid it is very well done. |

This platform is a well known current landmark and this is a finely crafted image of the area it resides in. The foreground area is very important to add depth to the scene and the three figures on that slope work well. The platform itself has this excellent sky behind it with the angels fingers or crepuscular rays breaking through the clouds. Often emphasizing these rays in an image can cereate noise but it is pleasingly absent here. The only improvement I could suggest is something else in the water but that is nit picking really. I must finally mention the monochrome conversion which is spot on with great tones. |

This image has been nicely taken. I like the off centre composition and it is good we can see the whole bird. Unfortunately, nothing in the image is pin sharp and the bird with it's similar tones and colours is a little lost against the background. Exposure is very good with a good range of tones especially in the lighter areas but I would suggest a higher ISO to provide more flexibility with shutter speeds and apertures. |

An image with a story that echoes 2020 all through it.The photographer has done well to extract the range of tones in the tables and chairs and to balance this against the lighted areas. It is a tad unfortunate about the only burnt out highlight in front of the figures mouth. Text in an image will always draw the eye so if it has to be present it helps to be relevant and the word 'happy' here is perhaps quite ironic. As this is a reportage style image the use of monochrome was a good move I feel. |

I am sure there is a message here but I must confess the title confused me as I was not able to see what the figure is wanting freedom from in this image. Having said that the figure with the dynamic arms and facing the only light area in an otherwise low key image is very good. She is perfectly placed in the centre of the image and also breaks up the horizon/sky line which cuts straight across the centre of the image. I may have eked a little more contrast from the field but otherwise this is an interesting image. |

This is a great study of the goldfinch in it's environment. Detail is good as is the lighting. The title just says 'goldfinch' but the bird should be larger in the frame for a title such as this. Nevertheless it has been very nicely taken and the bright conditions have worked well for you. |

Another image which tells a story of 2020. In many ways this has been nicely composed. The two figures are shown heading into the woodland which the light area ahead of them emphasises. Well done with the timing and avoiding the classic problem of trees seemingly growing out of people. The only change I would make would be to crop the bottom slightly which for me strengthens the composition. This is another well executed monochrome conversion with a good range of tones, the figures could easily have been lost against the background. |

A simple image showing this lone building facing the elements. It comes across as being straight from the camera but I can see this is the basis for a great deal of manipulation. The tones in the grasses and that fabulous sky are crying out for a moody monochrome treatment. As presented there is a white outline around the building which does suggest some over sharpening in post processing. An image with great possibilities. |

This is a striking image. The backlighting works extremely well and the red against the green is very effective. Even small details such as the daisy type flowers are a nice addition. I am a little concerned with the huge burnt out area caused by the sun and I am wondering if a later image with the sun partially covered by the foliage would have reduced this. It should still be possible to obtain the excellent backlighting displayed here. |

An image that could grace any wall. There is no great dynamic composition but the use of clever focussing and depth of field has created this nice softening the deeper we look into the image. I like the little ladybird as well. |

The artificial lighting has created an unusual and effective image. Everything is nice and sharp and although the exposure for the lights varies this is something different. |

This is a nicely timed image. The watersplash is nicely captured and the various elements frame the dog nicely. The lighting on the dog varies widely but the face is brightly lit which immediately captures our eye. Unfortunately, the dog is not pin sharp but otherwise this a nice image. |

In the days of the darkroom this could have been described as a 'soot and whitewash' image as the contrast is quite high but it still retains some mid tones. I must admit that apart from the cinema in the background I don't quite understand the title. As mentioned the contrast is high but I do like how the figure is separated from the background. It is a shame that the highlight detail is lost in the paving slabs but is nicely retained in the shirt and trousers. |

This is a nicely produced portrait. The lighting in particular is very well handled and well balanced throughout the image. The combination of the tiger print dress and black leather hat and footwear is interesting. There is a relatively high amount of noise which has affected the sharpness and crispness of the image. Something different but memorable. |

This is another great sunset capture. The colours in the sky and the contrast between the warm and blue colours works well. The Reculver Towers are a well recognised landmark and once again their silhouette works well here. The foreground area does retain detail but is dark. I think a slight crop would work to reduce this dark area of it maybe possible to select this and added some contrast which may introduce some rim lighting which would really lift this area. Well done on taking the sunset. |

An image all about movement. The blurred background and the place of the bird all emphasise movement and speed. Putting the bird to the left with loads of space ahead of it seems to give it more speed. Not sure about the soft edge and the very pronounced watermark but otherwise I do like the image within. |
