In Flight

The timing here is spot on. I really enjoy the attitude of the bird and how the pose fills the frame. Unfortunately this does count against it a little as well as it is very tight in the frame. Contrast is low and there is a fair bit of noise but overal this is a well captured image.

Arundel Cathedral

Cathedrals are a prime location for great record images although they do have certain challenges such as contrasty lighting. The interiors are obviously dark and stained glass windows invariably burn out in the final image.  This is where the often maligned HDR technique can be used to great effect. Having said all that this is a nicely composed image and very importantly  the uprights are perfectly upright.

Allington Lock

2nd

There is much to commend here. To begin with the whole image space is utilised and the composition appears to have been carefully put together. I like how all the leading lines from the powerful foreground interest takes us to the house in the background. The infra red technique is a good enhancement that works well. I think the scene would definitely have lost something if presented as taken in normal light. Very nice.

Medical Evacuation from a Cruise Ship

SM

At first glance this could easily be perceived as an easy shot to take. However, the real skill here has been using a shutter speed that gives movement to the rotor blades whilst retaining sharp detail elswhere. (Too fast a shutter speed would freeze the movement in the blades and create a model helicopter look). The icing on the cake here is the white circular trail between the rotor blades.

Kingfisher

Close to perfection. The burnt out area on the stick is the only negative I can find. Excellent.

Oyster Bay House

The sepia effect added to this adds a nice feel but the monochrome does not really work for me. There is a wealth of detail but much of it is lost in the comosition. Monochrome often works best when there are strong elements within the image. This has also been a little oversharpened. However, this looks to be a great subject so I would definitely urge you to return.

Rainbow over Carriage Museum, Maidstone

The rainbow is certainly a great addition to what would otherwise have been a failry mundane image. The colours work well together. The road is an unfortunate inclusion although some careful work in a photo software should reduce or even eliminate this. Well done on carrying a camera at the time and noticing the rainbow.

Sunset over Seaford Beach

This is a great sunset and the boat is a useful foreground subject. I think I would have tried different compositions. The biggest problem is that the image is a little soft and out of focus. The exposure is good though that captures both highlight and shadow detail.

Sculptured limestone

SM

Nature is full of natural forms which by careful composition can make great images such as this. The shapes and contours create great shapes with the added bonus os contrasting colours which as I said have been carefully seen and arranged. Very good.

Rainbow's end

There is a nice recession here that takes us towards the light and the rainbow itself. In an ideal world it would have been great to have an object such as a building that can be seen through the end of the rainbow. As presented this is a very attractive image.

It's a monumental climb

3rd

I'm not sure if this as taken or is a composite image but no matter I really enjoy the story here. The figure is well placed and the colour makes him stand out. It is good to see the end of the spiral staircase over their shoulder as well. I like this very much.

High-Up Neighbours

The shapes, colours and lighting work well here but I feel there is something missing. Perhaps one of the neighbours on one of the balconies is the answer. Still well seen and the area selected works as a nice composition.

We have lift off

I have no idea how this was created but it is an interesting effect. I could guess it is running water or ice but it does not matter, the image is striking and the colour of those strawberries is great. The title is also clever.

Red Silver Cockspur

What an interesting plant. The vibrant reddish colour contrasts brilliantly with the green foliage. This is a simple composition but the arrangement of the colours within the space is good. It is a little tight in the frame at the top and I think the saturation is a tad overdone in the reds but as I said the two colours work well together.

Ant or Footbridge Structure?

SM

It is always impressive when a photographer looks around their surroundings and finds a new angle on something and this certainly fits that bill! I like the composition and those shapes are also reminiscent of sci fi film mechanical monsters. Considering this was also taken against a bright sky background I am impressed by the shadow detail captured.

Wonky Lamppost

A lamp post is not the obvious subject but finding a wonky one and photographing it in misty conditions, (or perhaps adding that later although it matters not as it looks so natural), has created a unique image. The vignette idea is good although I may not have gone as dark as these are in the corners. Well seen.
