Best Snaps

Leeds Castle in the Spring Sunshine.

SM

This is a fine view of Leeds Castle. The weather conditions have created excellent light that accentuates the stone details. The warm colours of the stone contrast nicely with the sky and foliage. The reflection and the bank in the foreground are nice extras.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

1st

A very nicely constructed composition where every element plays a part. I like how the various elements guide us through the image to the castle in the background with the foliage at the top creating a frame. The lighting is very flat but this creates a very restful feel to the image for me. Very nice.

King's Wood Bluebells

3rd

Bluebells are a popular subject at this time of year but it can be difficult creating a different image but this one works well. The trees are nicely arranged and create a nice sense of depth in the image. The bluebells are a great contrasting colour to the greens here. For me the splash of green leaves two thirds of the way up are an important part of this view.

Hucking Woods

There is a mass of detail to enjoy here that has been exposed by the lighting creating real depth to the dense woodland. As with other bluebell images the blues/purples of the flowers are a fine contrast to the greens. The tracks in the ground are good but I feel the image needs something else such as a country gentleman with his dog to complete this fine scene.

Bluebells

2nd

The photographer here has opted to get in close but whereas this would often call for a small aperture for maximum possible depth of field they have instead gone for a wide aperture creating minimal depth of field. This does mean that some of the blooms will be soft but here it has produced that wonderful diffused background. Interesting.

Hole Park, Rolvenden

This is an interesting and different viewpoint of Hole Park. The photographer has also been creative and found this flight of steps for a great foreground subject. I like how it has been very carefully arranged with everything nicely balanced. I think I would have cropped out the step as it is very bright and distracting. Other than that this is a nice image.

Dunster Bridge, Summerset

This bridge in the grounds of Dunster Castle is rich with surface detail which is evident here. I like how the foliage has been utilised to create a frame for the image and the rushing water also works well. It is unfortunate that the sky area is bright and featureless which drags the eye away. I think this great viewpoint also has a great deal of scope with it's foliage and stonework for an interesting infra-red image.

Bluebells In The Woods.

SM

Images of bluebell woods can easily become similar to each other but this one has the advantage of the steep slope creating a more dynamic feel to the scene. The streams of light and their contrasting colours with nothing burnt out or blocked up are well controlled.

Wooded Spring Colours

This could easily have been perceived as an autumn scene with the explosion of warm colours but obviously the bluebells soon tell us the real story! I like how the light filters through the leaves. I wonder if it needs another element on the left hand side under the arch of the branch but other than that I must congratulate the photographer for producing a different bluebell woods type image.

Cowslip Meadow. Court Lodge, Luddesdowne

The photographer here has taken the wide view of this scene but I think there is potential for other images here to emphasise the meadow. Including so much sky has diminished the meadow in the scene and I would suggest lowering the camera or cropping out much of the sky. Another option could have been crouching low in the cowslip and using the plants as foreground interest. Either way this looks to be a good location and well worth a return visit if possible.

Elephant Sculpture

A large wooden sculpture of an elephant is not the obvious thing I would expect in Suffolk! This is a good shot showing the object in its location but I think I would have moved in closer and tried different viewpoints and focal lengths perhaps utilising the plants and flowers as foreground interest. The image as presented appears to have a colour cast, perhaps a tad too yellow which if corrected should strengthen the colours and contrast. Well done on finding an original bluebells image.
