This way for boarding

SM

This is an image with  a story. I like the lead in towards the abandoned wreck. At first I was not sure about the large expanse of sky but when I looked at it cropped out the balance seemed wrong so this is correct. A nice image.

If the shoe fits

Not sure what to say about this. I guess there is the interest into why there is a shoe on a pole? Photographically it has been well taken and I like the point of focus on the shoe emphasised with the shallow depth of field.

Creeping Shadow

3rd

This is a clever use of lighting creating this great effect. I like how the cat figure is nicely sharp and full of detail. The menacing shadow is well placed and sized perfectly. Maybe a slight tweak on the levels for deeper blacks but otherwise very well done.

Blooms in Sunlight

A very restful and calming image. The foreground blooms with their pastel tones are very well rendered. The background flowers are very bright and the brightness on the edges does take our eyes away from the main subject. There is some great detail in the head of the foremost flower.

Starling murmurations

2nd

Starling murmurations are always a great sight I remember seeing them at the derelict Brighton West Pier. A fast shutter speed will freeze the motion and show us the birds clearly but here the photographer has chosen a slower speed for some added movement in the image. It is certainly an effective effect and coupled with the wonderful evening shades of blue and yellow has created a great image.

Side Effects of Lockdown

1st

I have to congratulate the photographer on his choice of tipple which I hope was consumed over the past ten months and not all in one go! In this case of course after too many doubles he would be seeing double. The image is superbly lit and has excellent sharpness and detail with well controlled tones. The reflection is also very well handled. I wouldn't recommend this as a solution to lockdown but it is a brilliant image.

Frosty Leaves

This is a well seen image and I like the composition. The frost has been well rendered. The top of the image does go out of focus indicating limited depth of field which is a slight shame. I don't know what control of aperture the photographer had but I would suggest stopping it down or holding the camera perfectly parallel to the subject. The colour combination with the warm browns against the ice works well.

Electric Horizon

This is a great location and I like how the vegetation mirrors the shape of the sky. The lighting conditions are not favourable here but remember the location as under dramatic lighting this could be a great composition. Imagine some lightning flashing across the sky behind the powerlines etc.
