Symetric Steps

SM

This is very well done. The mirror symmetry is carefully arranged and the monochrome contrast is nicely controlled. I was wondering if another element, something that has been colour popped could be placed on one of the thirds. Just a thought but a nice image nonetheless.

The Lights of Rochester

1st

Everything about this has been well done. The composition and exposure that captures all the illumination accurately is spot on. In addition the decision to take this at dusk thereby giving us colour in the sky is great as well. Too often people take night shots in the pitch black missing out on some wonderful blue hues like this, if only they had ventured out earlier.

Festive picture of Chatham Dockside in the snow

To me it appears someone has been having some great creative fun here and why not? I'm sure this could be a good custom Christmas card image.

Having coffee with my great-great-great-great Grandmother

This is something very different and I can make educated guesses as to how it was achieved. I'm sure the photographer enjoyed doing it but I must admit I don't really understand this image.

Grey skies over chatham marina

SM

Although described as grey the sky in this picture is full of detail and has been rendered nicely in the reflection. Some of the boats are a little burnt out but overal I quite like this.

The Quays viewed from No1 Basin Lock

This is another very nice reflection image. There is some great sharp detail in the buildings and the boats. Reflections of skies are often darker and hold more tones as we can see here and it is unfortunate that the sky in the top half is very bright. I would be tempted to check the RAW file and see how much detail could be teased out in the sky area.

Christmas 2020

2nd

To me this image is making a comment about how the 2020 Christmas could have been viewed by people. I.e: It was a bit rubbish and was washed down in the gutter with the cigarrette ends etc. Of course I could be wrong and the photographer created this monochrome image with a view to colour pop the bauble. Personally, I enjoy an image with a story so I will stick with my interpretation. Very good.

Riverside Country Park

I like the idea here where the photographer has concetrated on some nice foreground detail and I'm assuming the object in the background is a well known landmark of Riverside Country Park. To further achieve those aims I would have stopped down a little more to enhance the shape of the landmark. Ther monochrome treatment is a little heavy and contrasty and I may have worked on that to lift the tones in the wood. A good idea and a nice composition.

Kestrel Resting

There are some nice colour tones in this image and a nice contrast between the browns and the greens. The image appears to have a painterly effect which has taken away the fine detail. The composition is interesting as well with the bird to the right looking out of the image although I would have reduced the white dead space a tad.

It's all a mystery to me

SM

There is a lot to like about this image. To begin with it has a story and has been well timed. The monochrome treatment has been nicely applied. In retrospect it would have good if the photographer tilted their camera down a little to include more of the subjects own equipment and to also eliminate the bright sky area in the background. Nicely seen though and nicely taken.

The Waves Came Crashing In

A well timed shot with a high shutter speed that has frozen the water in mid flow. I particularly like the spray droplets caught in mid air. The image is a little contrasty though which has produced some burnt out areas. The colour tone reminds me of an old darkroom tone process. It was a long time ago but I'm thinking that was selenium toning?

Low Tide

3rd

There are some wonderful rich tones here and the composition has been well arranged. In particular none of the boats obscure or overlap each other. The far bank does cut across the image with a dark line which is unfortunate but having said that it is not a solid black line.
