The Tree

Trees often make good photographic subjects and this is a good example. Rthe composition is central so the photographer has added an effect in the form of a vignette which has softened the outer edges of the picture. This has been successful in isolating the tree but has caused a halo effect around it which looks a little un-natural. I do like the contrast in the monoxchrome.

Riverview Apartments

This is a fantastic monochrome study. The interplay of the light on the surfaces and the perfect tones and contrast are a joy as are the shapes in the building. The detail in the sky suggests an extended exposure too. Very nice indeed.

This is a very good natural light portrait. The pose is good and I like the eye contact with the viewer. The quality of the image is very high too. The contrast range of the lighting is high but this has been well controlled. Very well done.

Ready to race

SM

The crowning glory of this image are the eyes which are sharp and brilliantly framed by their surroundings. We are drawn instantly to them. To further strengthen the composition I think I would crop out the large bright area to the left and a tad off the top as well. This would concentrate our gaze on those eyes even more.

Howard Fuller

The composition here has been well seen and I like the story it tells. The focussing and depth of field  are nicely controlled as well by ensuring we read the helmet but with enough background detail to complete the story. Unfortunately the picture suffers from camera shake and the bright areas in the background are distracting. I cannot fault the story though.

Dog Walking in the Fog

This landscape with its soft tones and perfect exposure is a quality image in itself. It does need a zing point and the photographer has provided this with the dog walker. Unfortunately this is very small in the image space and I may not have realised its significance without the title. I would like this figure to have been a little more prominent. Once again though I cannot fault the quality of the overal image.

Sunset at Queenborough

SM

The colours here are glorious and the silhouettes provide nice leading lines which give a 3D effect to this. I would have liked to have seen a feature to act as a zing point and the horizontal line does cut the picture in two. However, I especially enjoy the reflected colours in the water.

Pollen Collector

SM

This is an interesting image. There is a wealth of detail in the bee and we can clearly see it is within the flower but everything appears static. I assume this was taken with flash although there are no shadows and this has perhaps frozen the movement. The point of focussing is very good as is the depth of field. I think I would clone out the black spot but this is nit picking.

Double Take

Well done to the photographer for spotting this perfect reflection and the shape it makes. There are a few details in the background I might clone out such as what appears to be a leg and a point of interest on the surface of the water might have been good to rest our eyes on. Otherwise this is well seen.

Fruity Carnival Girls

With the bold colours and the costumes there is no doubt these are carnival girls. The group is nicely arranged but the girls are looking at another photographer it seems. This would be stronger if the eye contact was with the photographer of this image. The contrast is a bit high and I think just a tad off this would be beneficial. The background people indicate that this was taken at some public event so well done in excluding other possible distractions.

Palm Leaves in the Sun

2nd

This is a very bold and striking pattern picture. I like how all the lines of the leaves lead us into the centre which although dark does retain some nice sharp detail. The control of the various green tones is nicely done too.
